Stitches

Stitches

She has so many stitches now, she barely feels the poke of the needle.

Stitches in her eyes, to hold back her tears.
Stitches in her lips, to hold her smile in place.
Stitches to hold her arms on, after holding herself together for so long.
Stitches in her fingers, to count the number of times she's been hurt.
Stitches in her toes, to keep her balance when the world tries to knock her down.
Stitches in her legs, to hold her up when she wants to fall.
Stitches in her belly, which bear the hope of the future, and bring her unknown fears.
Stitches in her heart. So many wounds. So much heartache.

Stitches barely hurt now.
Stitches never heal.

So much thread.....
