The first match ended as expected. The good guy was tossed from the ring after the villain and a couple of his henchmen beat him from one corner to the other. It was a common theme in these choreographed rock dramas. Some still believed it was real, while the purpose was to put on a show, not harm their entertainers, and travel from city to city to make a living. It was a modern day circus.
"Not very convincing." Kanaan snapped his tongue against his pointed teeth. "Ah, my favorite of these performers. Strong, and with a big heart. Not bad on courage either. I will always remember his scent, even if I don't know his stage name." Kanaan smiled, his teeth became visible, and would have caused quite a bit of concern for anyone if he were to stand in front of them.
"Time to announce myself. This stain..." He growled. "it stinks from even up here." Kanaan wound his way through the steel rafters of the auditorium, and when he was above the ring, he waited until it cleared. Then he dropped the nearly fifty feet from the rafters to the mat barely a sound. He lightly hopped to the top of the steel post, and stood up straight on only his toes. He wrapped his arms around his middle and smiled wide.
The spectators thought this was part of the show. He knew it by the looks on their faces, and he smiled wider. It was creepy to the extreme and only served to inflame their imaginations as to what character he played in this industry.
"Hello, everyone. I'm so glad you could join us tonight." His voice echoed throughout the auditorium, a slight vibration in the deep tones, that stirred some souls to react as though he was talking straight to them. All without a microphone. "I'm sure you are aware that the owners of this production are ones who hate injustice, but there is someone here tonight who is a stain on their stage." The wrestler, his favorite, approached the ring cautiously, as did some security agents who escorted him. With a finger, he pointed at the closest guard and pulled him off his feet, through the air, and right up to his face. He was still on the top of a 3 inch steel post at the corner of the ring.
"What are you?" The guard said fearfully. He smiled.
"I am Kanaan. I am going to set something up, and you are going to follow the laws of this land. There is someone here who committed a serious crime. When its exposed, I expect you to act accordingly." The guard nodded quickly. "Make sure you get the big guy to help you. It will help his reputation, I suspect. Also, whisper to the ones on the microphones to stop with their foolishness, and to follow along. This will help." Then Kanaan smiled, his fangs obvious to the guard. "Or I will not be pleased." The guard nodded quickly again. He pointed to the floor, gently lowered the guard, and released him from his telekinetic grip. The guard quickly ran over to the announcers, whispered in their ear, and went back to the wrestler. He was standing by, in a fighting stance, wondering if he should enter the ring.
"Sorry for the delay, folks. Some needed to be reminded of their role in tonight's entertainment!" He had crouched down to release the guard, but now stood up and walked along the flexible ropes of the ring. The announcers began to speak.
"Look at that! He balances perfectly on the ropes, but look closely! They don't bend down with his weight! How is this possible?" The announcers were now perfectly playing their part.
"Now, the company is concerned about something....sniff sniff...ah, there you are." He jumped from the rope, nimble and lithe, his form almost seemed to fly from the ropes to the steel barricades that prevented audience interventions in the matches. He looked down to a small girl beside a sketchy looking woman.
"Hi." He spoke to the girl who now smiled up at him, completely innocent, and without fear. Innocent children could often feel if his kind were of evil intent.
"Hi." The woman went to reach out, but found his intense gaze on her. She shrank back as she felt something alien and sinister in his gaze. He then turned back to the girl.
"What's your name?" She smiled and giggled.
"Anita."
"Anita, is this your mother?" She shook her head.
"No, this is my neighbor." She started to cry.
"Where is your mommy?" She looked up.
"I don't know. I haven't seen her in a long time." Kanaan growled and looked at the woman.
"Gentlemen. I suggest you prevent this woman from leaving." The crowd surged forward and surrounded the woman, but she was held in place by Kanaan's gaze. "If you should move from this spot, know there is nowhere on this planet that can hide you from me now that I have your scent." He smiled down at Anita.
"Anita, would you like me to help you find your mommy?" The girl reached up.
"Please find my mom!" Kanaan lifted her easily into his arms and set her onto the other side of the barricade.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the company finds it deplorable that a child was abducted, but if the announcers are aware of a child who has gone missing, with the name of Anita, perhaps they could call the police and report the missing child?" The closest announcer nodded and picked up the phone. "Now, Anita, this security guard is like a policeman. He is going to protect you until they show up. See this big guy here?" She smiled and nodded. "He is going to make sure no one other then the police help you. Isn't that right, big guy?" Kanaan smiled his direction, and caused the physically larger man to step back.
"That's right. I'll protect the child."
"I knew that you would. Now, Anita, do you remember your mom's name?"
"Charlie." She sniffed miserably.
"Do you know your last name?" She shook her head. "Don't worry. I'm sure someone in this audience has a phone that they can search the internet for mention of her, and her mother." He then looked down at Anita. "Don't worry, Anita. I'm leaving now, but I'll be watching out for you until your mom hugs you in her arms again, okay?" She nodded.
"Okay." He smiled at the child, then stepped to the top of the post. The wrestler sucked in his breath.
"He didn't jump! He just pushed off with his feet and flew there!" He shivered. Just what kind of being was this person?
"Well, that takes care of the stain on tonight's entertainment. Now, ladies and gentlemen, the matches will continue, however the big guy, one of my personal favorites in the ring, his match will have to be delayed until the police show up. The company thanks you for your patience." He smiled, lifted off from the post and hovered about ten feet from the top of the ring. "In case you are wondering, my name....." He smiled as the anticipation in the auditorium rose. "Is Kanaan. If you put a stain on my city, you better hope I never catch your scent." Then his form disappeared in the blink of an eye.
"Good God!" The announcer's voice rang out. "I don't know who this Kanaan is, but he made his presence known here tonight!"
"Was that real?" The veteran announcer asked. His co-host nodded.
"It was. I just looked up the girl's case on the internet. He was correct. She was stolen from her mother six months ago, and they haven't found her. The police are on their way to pick her up, and to pick up the criminal who abducted her." He looked at the security guard. "Ring for your fellows to take her into custody."
"Then this Kanaan did do an awful lot for our business today." The promoter blinked in surprise at the knowledge he now had. Kanaan did a lot for them in a short period of time, but would this prove beneficial to them, or harmful. The promoter then looked at the wrestler, his mic silent. "He did an awful lot for you too. How shall we make use of that in the future?" The wrestler began to smile, although it was uncertain.
Did he just get the approval of an angel, a demon, or both?
